Betty Jean Devine, 93, of Marysville, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Bluebird Retirement Community of Marysville.
Betty will be fondly remembered as a kind and thoughtful lady who was most devoted to her husband and family. A loving homemaker, she was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. At the age of 7 following her father’s death in a coal mining accident, Betty, along with her siblings, entered an orphanage in Tiffin, Ohio funded by the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, with whom her father was affiliated. Proudly referred to as “Home Kids”, Betty always appreciated the relationships, security, and opportunities provided by the Junior Home during her childhood. She was a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Heidelberg University for one year. She was affiliated with Women’s Parliament and PEO and enjoyed quilting, gardening, and reading. She treasured the love of her family and the title of “Grandma Devine”.
Born May 3, 1930 in Hardburly, KY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mittie (Pennington) Warren. On January 14, 1950 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Columbus, this coal miner’s daughter married Paul W. Devine, a blacksmith’s son. She and her beloved husband were married for over 62 years, prior to Paul’s passing on November 1, 2012. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Georgiton; 5 brothers, Daniel, Charles, Wallace, Walter, and Carl Warren; and a son-in-law, Keith Conard.
She is survived by her children, Stephen (Suzanne) Devine of Marysville, John (Wendy) Devine of Centerville, Susan (John) Lewin of Tampa, FL, Patrick (Denny) Devine of Bexley, and Anne Devine of Marysville; grandchildren, Stephanie (John Moore) Devine, Paul (Lauren) Devine, Connor (Anna) Devine, Kenneth Devine, Chris (Laura) Devine, Ben Devine, Ryan Devine, Meghan Devine, Andrew Conard, Katherine Devine, Brien (Ryan) Hub, Molly (Curtis) Stewart, Brendan (Briana) Devine, Caitie (Brett) Bowen, Colin Light, and Mason Light; plus 16 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The Devine family would like to express their appreciation to the great people at Bluebird Assisted living and to Loving Care Hospice for their kind, compassionate care given to Betty.
