Dorothy Margaret Arn, 95, of Ely, MN and formerly of Marysville, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Carefree Living in Ely. Born December 25, 1920 in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Clara Phoebe (Hook) Kimmel. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Kimmel. A 1938 graduate of West High School in Columbus, she attended Franklin Business School and the Ohio State University. Dorothy acquired her private pilot's license in the early 1940's, which is where she would meet her husband. On August 13, 1945, she married Edward "Eddie" Arn and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1984. After getting married, she and Eddie sold everything they owned and bought a three masted schooner they called "The Bluenose." They would spend the next five years living on The Bluenose, sailing up and down the east coast of North America. In 1950, they would sell The Bluenose and settled on a farm in Northern Union County on Route 4. Upon settling in Marysville, Dorothy started working at the Ohio Reformatory for Women as a secretary. Over the years she would continue to advance her career, eventually being named Superintendent, retiring in 1987. After retiring, she would spend the next 20 years wintering in Florida and spending the summers with her daughter's family. She enjoyed traveling and caring for her dogs, but most importantly, Dorothy loved being a grandma and involved with her granddaughters. A member of the Red Hat Society, she was formerly a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by her daughter, Christine F. (Donald E.) Williams of Ely, MN; granddaughters, Kristen Arn and Whitney Leah Williams, both of Ely, MN and a nephew, Gerald Kimmel of Grove City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M.
