Edward Cortes Evans, age 85 passed away December 25, 2015 at the Memorial Gables, Marysville, Ohio with his family by his side. Ed was born July 12,1930 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Wilson B. Evans and Grace H. (Weatherby) Evans. He graduated from West Mansfield High School, attended Ohio Wesleyan University, proudly served in the US Marine Corp, and graduated from Stanford University. In 1954, he married Amaryllis (Butler) Evans who predeceased him. Together they had 5 children. In 1984, he married Marilyn Rose (Sullivan)Evans. Following a long professional career as a private agriculture business owner, he later worked as a realtor alongside of his wife, Marilyn. He was a faithful member of West Mansfield United Methodist church. As an avid Ohio State University fan, he enjoyed working as Portal Chief overseeing ushers at OSU games for many years. He was a 33rd Degree Mason recognized for exemplary service. He was a committed public servant having served in many capacities in the community and business arena. He served as West Mansfield Mayor for two consecutive terms. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Ed was a friend to all and never missed an opportunity to engage in lively conversation. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marilyn Rose (Sullivan) Evans; 5 children Benjamin (Bonnie) Evans of Pickerington, OH, Karen (David) Barnes of Harrisonburg, VA, Alice (Jim) Cavin of Roanoke, VA, Samuel(Belinda) Evans of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel (Danielle) Evans of Bellefontaine, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Sarah (Chris), Matt( Becca), Steven (Sally), Leslie, Anne, Christopher (Julianna), Lily, Conner; 2 great-grandchildren, Landon and Weston. 2 stepchildren, Terri (Dave) Eley, Jimmy Dean (Mindy) Shelton; 2 step grandchildren, Abby(JonJon), Ashton; 4 step great-grandchildren, Kayah Rose (Deceased), Kaydee, JJ and Makaya. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec 29, 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home (West Mansfield). A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, Dec 30, 10am at West Mansfield United Methodist Church. Graveside service at Hales Cemetery, Mt Victory, Ohio to follow. Luncheon at West Mansfield Methodist Church following graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Mansfield United Methodist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
