Frances Ruth Staley Frances Ruth Staley, age 95, of West Mansfield died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at The Gables at Green Pastures with her family at her side following an extended illness. A loving homemaker and farmer's wife, Frances was a woman of great faith and nurtured her family in that faith. She was a member of the York Center United Methodist Church and had served as adult Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible school director at the former York-McKendree United Methodist Church. She was a member of the WSCS, the Ladies Aid, the York Progressive Women, and the York Grange. Affectionately known as "Grandma Staley", Frances enjoyed crocheting and embroidery and will be remembered for making countless baby sweaters and baby blankets for her family and the community. She was a fervent reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Grandma Staley was a source of great pride and admiration for her family, and her greatest treasure was the love and affection they all shared. She was born July 16, 1918, in Richwood to the late Marion Estley and Alice Dale Shoup. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dr. Craig Cooley, and a brother, Ralph Shoup. Survivors include her husband of nearly 73 years, Walter F. Staley, to whom she was married on April 6, 1941, at her parents' home near York Center; 3 children, Cheryl Cooley and Sharon (Bill) Kelley, each of Marysville; and Merrill (Beverly) Staley, West Mansfield; 8 grandchildren, Eric Cooley, Shawn (Linda) Cooley, Angela (George) Hill, Matthew (Andrea) Staley, Mark (Betsy) Staley, Shannon (Travis) Upton, Paul (Kristen) Kelley, and Sarah (Erich) Piland; 21 great-grandchildren, Krandi, Brandon, Chase, Shawnna, Christian, Delaney, Katelyn, Rhett, Ryan, Brady, Kendal, Caleb, Spencer, Karlyn, Oliver, Kathryn, William, Sophia, Avery, Norah & Paige; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Makayla and Mia; and her church family. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the York Center United Methodist Church. Reverend Michelle Holloway will officiate and burial will take place at York Cemetery.
