Garry A. Daas, 71, of Morral, passed away peacefully, early Tuesday morning December 18, 2018 at Marion General Hospital with his loving wife by his side. Garry proudly served his country as a Military Policeman with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed contractor most of his life, always meticulous with his work and also a highly skilled carpenter and interior decorator. He was a life member of the VFW Post 7201, enjoyed bird watching and making bird houses for the local resident birds, cycling, especially the cycling trips to Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains, was a member of the Heart of Ohio Tailwinds and a true animal lover as this was evident by his many cat rescues over the years. He also loved tending to his perennial garden, growing his own produce, canning, stocking his pond with fish. Garry also had a true love of trains and anything that related to them. Born April 19, 1947 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Theodore and Betty (Pierson) Daas. His father preceded him in death along with two brothers-in-law, Dan Shirk and Dennis Wilson and a sister-in-law, Lillian Burch-Wilson. On December 1, 1994 he married his wife of 24 years, Vicki (Wilson) Daas and she survives in Morral. Garry is also survived by his mother, Betty Daas of Marion; a sister, Sue Shirk of Marysville; a brother-in-law, Jerry Wilson of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Catherine Wilson of Athens, TN; a step daughter, Crystal; two step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Marion Bible Fellowship 590 Forest Lawn Dr where a Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following the gathering at 7:00 PM. Graveside services with Military Rites conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Marion Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Garry to the Homeless to Home Animal Rescue and Cat Sanctuary 1745 Marion-Waldo Rd. Marion, OH 43302.
