Graham Eugene "Gene" Elbin Graham Eugene "Gene" Elbin, age 88, of West Jefferson died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the OSU Medical Center, Columbus. A lifelong farmer, Gene was a skilled truck driver with Marathon Oil for over 27 years and achieved a perfect driving record having never experienced an accident, spill, or even a minor scratch. He formerly was employed with OM Scotts Seed Company, served as a milk hauler with Nestles, and worked many years with Yoder's Implement Company. He graduated from New Dover High School in 1942 and served his country in the United States Navy from 1943-1946, serving aboard the USS Moffett and the USS Xenia. He was always supportive of his sons' 4-H projects showing hogs and sheep, and he always enjoyed attending local county fairs. He was a former member of the Franklin County Fair Board and often volunteered and assisted with many local Kiddie Tractor Pulls. He was at his happiest when behind the wheel of his semi or atop his tractor working ground. He was born April 11, 1924, on the Graham Farm near New Dover to the late Doyle and Cora Graham Elbin. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bruce Lyons. Survivors include his 2 sons, David (Karen) Elbin, Mt. Vernon; and Sam (Mary Beth) Elbin, Logan; 3 granddaughters, and 3 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 2-4 p. m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Mannasmith Funeral Home, Marysville, where the funeral service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. Reverend John M. Groat will officiate and burial with military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard will take place at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral service.
