Janice E. Middaugh, 75, of Marion, was called home to join her loving husband on Sunday, June 4, 2023 following a hard fought, courageous battle with cancer.
A 1965 graduate of Harding High School, she worked with Verne Hart insurance in her early years, then worked as the secretary at Central Christian Church for many years while her daughter was in school, so she could be available to her, was an Assistant Manager at Hallmark, and worked as an at home daycare provider for 13 years, caring for many children during those years. She was affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren, as well as all of her “bonus grandchildren” she helped raise. After the last kiddo she cared for went to school, she began working at Kenton Family Practice with Dr. Paul Wesson until she began her battle with cancer.
A lifetime member of Central Christian Church, she served in many roles including deacon, elder, financial secretary, Chairman of the Board, and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Association, an active member of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, holding various offices and currently serving as vice-president. Along with Frank, she played euchre once a month with many close friends in “card club” which eventually became a once a month dinner outing, yet was still referred to as “card club.” She enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling, writing, and attending whatever Shannon and her grandkids were involved with at any given time. Most of all, her greatest love was her family.
Born December 11, 1947 in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Donald Lamar “Dowie” and Lillian Juanita (Eakins) Freese. On March 9, 1969, she married her husband of over 54 years, Frank Elza Middaugh and he preceded her in death just 18 days ago on May 17th. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Renee Middaugh and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Maryann Middaugh.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Josh) Davis of Marion; grandchildren, Sabastian, Laney and Jaxon; sisters, Debbie (Mike) Manley and Donna (Ernie) Humbert; a brother, Dave (Donna) Freese; brother-in-law, Paul (Karen) Middaugh; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Johnson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Bob Singh and his office staff, Dr. Amy Harper, Angela Dugan CNP and their office staff at the Bing Cancer Center and Tranquility Hospice.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Janice will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at The Brickyard on Main 135 S. Main St. Marion. Burial will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Central Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
