John Styer

John Leroy "Roy" Styer, died Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 at his residence after a long battle with heart disease at the age of 89. He was born on March 11, 1926 to the late John Sylvester Styer and Minnie Bonner Styer in Delaware, Ohio. He was preceded in death by all his siblings, brothers, Charles, Ernest and Robert Styer and sisters, Mabel Savage, Mary Crowe and Rachel Brady. He grew up farming with horses and left the farm during WWII to serve in the U.S. Navy as a boiler operator, crossing the Panama Canal and the Pacific to the Philippines in that adventure. After the war he returned to Ohio, bought a farm and started his dairy herd as well as working construction in Columbus. On April 12, 1953, he married his wife, Wilda "Tillie" Cox, who will soon be 91. She joined him on the farm and they continued to dairy for over 30 years. He was a great father to his two daughters, Marilyn ( Bob) McBeth of Green Camp and Carolyn (Gary) Gibeaut of Marysville as well as a proud grandfather of Michael McBeth of Bucyrus and Dr. Sarah (Pete) Bell of Pittsburgh, PA along with great grandson Henry Robert Bell. He was a supportive uncle to many nieces and nephews. After selling his cows in the 1990's, he continued to raise beef cattle and sell hay for many years. He enjoyed sharing stories and visiting with his many friends and family and especially enjoyed attending auctions and Old Timers Day. He did what he loved, farming and helping other people. He was blessed by many great friends and neighbors who helped him as age caught up with him. He appreciated all your help and visits. Visitation will be at Mannasmith Funeral Home on Friday, October 30th, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. Graveside services will be held at Raymond Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 31st, 2015 with Reverend Warren Goble officiating and Military Rites will be conducted by the Union County Honor Guard. Memorial donations can be made to Memorial Mobile Meals or the Liberty Township Fire Department.
