Joseph John Erdy, Jr., 95, of West Mansfield, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at his residence. A veteran of the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, Joe served in the South Pacific. Upon returning home, he worked as a farmer until he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed making antique farm equipment toys, yearly fishing trips to Ontario, Canada and traveling to all 50 states. Born June 27, 1920 in Millfield, he was the son of the late Joseph and Teresa (Miller) Erdy. On July 29, 2012, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Esther Simon, whom he married June 14, 1949 in Brewster, OH at St Theresa's Catholic Church and an infant sister, Rita Erdy. Surviving are his children, Joseph Edward (Rosie) Erdy of Richwood, Timothy Leo (special friend, Pamela Wagner) Erdy of West Mansfield and Vicki (special friend, John Tapp) Erdy of Rushsylvania; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Richard) Griffin of Grove City and Betty Reinhard of Galloway; brothers, Frederick (Joan) Erdy of Orient, William (Marilyn) Erdy of Grove City and Walter Erdy of Sunbury and Linda Erdy of Rushsylvania. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 30, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father David Poliafico officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery where Military Rites will be observed by the Union County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-5 P.M.
