Kenneth E. Baker, 59, of West Mansfield, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 16, 2024at his residence.
A 1983 graduate of River Valley High School, he worked as a mechanic for 20 years but his true passion was always horses. He trained barrel racing horses professionally for most of his life but full time for the last 15 years, as well as obtained his trainer card for the thoroughbred race track and was successful in racing them for 5 years. He enjoyed mentoring the younger generation and helping them find success with their horses. In addition he was a farrier and a member of OWHA, NBHA, and IBRA organizations.
Born May 19, 1965 in Marion, he was the son of Lowell and Annabelle (Purtee) Baker.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Penny (Corwin) Baker of West Mansfield; a son, Simon (Callie) Baker of Bainbridge; a daughter, Sierra Baker of West Mansfield; his mother, Annabelle Baker of West Liberty; a sister, Gina (Russ) Wardell of Akron; and his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Barbara Corwin of West Mansfield.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 25, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Hale Cemetery in Mt. Victory. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
