Marilyn Straw

Marilyn J. Straw, 77, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family.

A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, “BeMa” and great grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed making cakes and taking pictures, always most comfortable behind the lens, not in front of it. A longtime member of the Caledonia Church of Christ, she served for many years as the pianist and also played at the Canaan United Methodist Church for many years. A 1962 graduate of Caledonia High School, Marilyn worked at Whirlpool Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1996.

Born August 12, 1944 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Russ and Anna (Medley) Paxton. On September 27, 1961 in Wise, VA, she married her husband of 57 years, Dannie L. Straw and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2018. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Linda Carmen and Margie Hicks, and a grandson, Derrec Patrick.

She is survived by her sons, John (Kim Tackett) Straw of Marion and Jack (Michelle Bowman) Straw of Caledonia; grandchildren, Jackie (Eric Rice) Graham of Marion, Dannie (Kristina) Straw of Maricopa, AZ and Caitlyn (Tristan) Beeney of Marion; great grandchildren, Paxton and Cooper Graham, Ivan Straw, Cayden Chaney and Ellie Beeney; sister-in-law, Teena (Myron) Crowell; brothers-in-law, Hurley Hicks of Marion and Harold Straw of New Bloomington; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Caledonia Church of Christ. Reverend David Braxton will officiate and burial will follow next to her husband at the Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service on Thursday from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Caledonia Church of Christ in care of the funeral home or envelopes will be available at the church.
