Marjorie A. Oliver, 73, of West Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family.
A devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandma, Marjorie enjoyed doing upholstery, owning and operating her own reupholstery shop in West Mansfield for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing piano and collecting hummels and bears which are still a favorite of the grandchildren.
A 1965 graduate of Buckeye Local High School, she went on to earn a bachelor of art's degree from Bowling Green State University. She worked as a medical technologist at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Mercy Hospital in Springfield and Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine before deciding to make a career change. In 1980, she began working at the West Mansfield Post Office as a part-time clerk. Eight years later she would take on the role of postmistress, a position she would hold for the next 21 years before retiring July 3, 2009.
Born May 10, 1947 in Kenton, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Helen (Cowan) Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Chuck Elliott. On January 1, 1981 at the United Methodist Church in West Mansfield, she married her husband of over 39 years, Wendell Dean Oliver.
She is survived by her husband Dean of West Mansfield; a son, Chris (Josie) Oliver of Midland, GA; a daughter, Michelle (Travis) Elsass of Jackson Center and her grandchildren, Savannah Oliver, Kashton Elsass, Everly Elsass and Quinlyn Elsass.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 17, 2020 at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church 212 E. Center St. West Mansfield. Pastor Bill Snyder and Pastor Doug Thompson will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Wilson Funeral Home 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Friends attending the calling hours and funeral service will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
