Marlin Lee Applegate Marlin Lee Applegate, age 74, of Marysville died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus, with his wife and sister at his side. He served as a produce clerk with Kroger for over 43 years. Lee graduated from Marysville High School in 1957 and served in the Ohio National Guard. Upon his retirement, Lee and his wife proudly served as volunteers with Memorial Hospital of Union County's Mobile Meals program for 13 years. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and enjoyed a collection of model cars. He was born March 28, 1939, in Marysville to the late Marlyn O. and Bertha Overacker Applegate. He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Applegate. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ackley Applegate, to whom he was married on January 18, 1959, at the East Liberty United Methodist Church; his daughter, Sherie (Kelly) Fahey, Madison, WI; 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Nicole Fahey; his sister, Barbara (David) Ballmann, Marysville; 4 brothers-in-law, Bob (Kathy) Ackley and Merle (Becky) Ackley, each of East Liberty; Dave (Phyllis) Ackley, West Liberty; and Albert Ackley, Bellefontaine; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Mannasmith Funeral Home, Marysville, where the funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Reverend Jim Gardner will officiate and burial will take place at Union Township Cemetery, Milford Center, at a later date.
