Martha Sue Dana Brennan, 71, died Sunday morning, February 9, 2020 at Memorial Gables Nursing & Rehab Center.
She was born October 21, 1948 at the rural home of her late parents, Edwin and Dorothy Dana, who served as home mission pastors of a rural church in Montgomery County, Kentucky. Sue was the youngest of 4 children. She grew up being called "Sue" by her parents, siblings, and friends.
In 1950, she moved with her family to Marysville, Ohio where her father became pastor of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1966.
In 1970, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with major in elementary education from Evangel University in Springfield, MO. After graduation, she took a teaching position in Alton, IL.
In 1975, she met and married Thomas Brennan. Her only children were the ones she loved and nurtured in the schools where she taught. She enjoyed traveling, taking pictures, cross-stitching and plastic canvas needlework. She suffered a stroke in October 2016 that left her needing ongoing nursing care. Even so, she remained alert and eager to engage with other residents and caregivers. She was divorced in May 2019. She moved from Illinois to the Memorial Gables in Marysville, OH in July 2019 to be near her older sister, Ruth Ann Eastman, a long-time resident of Marysville.
In addition to Ruth Ann Eastman, Sue is survived by her brothers, Crell (Elaine) Dana of Springboro, OH and Bernie (Susie) Dana of Springfield, MO; nieces and nephews, Mark (Debby) Eastman, Lorrina (Russ) Hawkins, Lanita (C.J.) Gaul, Timothy Dana, Kevin (Joyce) Dana, Kyle (Kimberly) Dana; many great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews; several cousins and lifelong friend who was like a sister, Betty Edwards of East Alton, IL.
Sue Brennan remained strong in her Christian faith throughout her life. She was a loyal member of the East Alton Assembly of God Church in East Alton, IL.
