Richard F. “Dick” Carpenter, 84, of Huntsville and formerly of West Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at his residence following several months of failing health.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Dick was a 1957 graduate of Bokescreek Local High School. He first worked with Wilgus Implement and then at the water plant in West Mansfield for 27 years. He also helped many of the farmers in the area over the years. A former member and trustee of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, he served in the National Guard for 8 years, was a Bokescreek Township Trustee for 6 years and a volunteer with the Bokescreek Fire Department. He also served as a camper host at Indian Lake State Park for 9 years. Dick enjoyed hunting, camping and gardening, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Born September 12, 1938 in West Mansfield, he was the son of the late Forrest and Lynda (Doan) Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne (Culp) Carpenter; a sister, Ellen Proctor; and a brother, Floyd Carpenter.
On October 7, 2008 he married Kathy (Coyer) Carpenter and she survives in Huntsville. He is also survived by a son, Jeffrey Carpenter of West Mansfield; a daughter, Teresa Carpenter-Cummins of Dublin; stepson, John (Janean) Shannon; stepdaughter, Heather Butler; grandchildren, Destinie (Aaron) Hefner, Danielle Carpenter, Deanndra (Blake) Carpenter, Amber (Steven) Harvalias, Ashley Cummins and Aimee (Eric) Mitchell; great grandchildren, Barrett, Meadow, Manny and Sophia; step-grandchildren, Jami (Trent) Lovell, Justin (Val) Shannon, Megan Butler and Paige Butler; step-great grandchildren, Jasi, Wyatt, Javen, Parker, Jaegar, Cohen, Mailey, Nettie and Rula; sisters, Bernice Ganson of Huntsville and Marie Murdock of Lakeview; a brother, Ronnie (Nancy) Carpenter of West Mansfield; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Interim Home Care and Hospice for the kind, compassionate care that was given to Dick.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Hathaway Cemetery A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 P.M. prior to the memorial service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made to Interim Home Care and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
