Robert Beck

Robert James Beck, 73, of Marysville, passed away early Sunday, September 16, 2018 at his residence following a brief illness. Born April 24, 1945 in Pleasant Township near McComb. he was the son of the late Burl B. and Frances (Franklin) Beck. Robert James Beck was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a driven trailblazer. Bob was both the salutatorian and the president of the McComb High class of 1963. Bob attended the Ohio State University on an academic scholarship, where he resided in the stadium scholarship dormitory. In 1967, he married Margaret Lee Krebs. Upon graduating from OSU, Bob accepted a management position with Anheuser Busch, where he remained for 30 years. Throughout Bob's life, he was a dedicated agriculturalist, applying innovative scientific techniques to improve both his farm and the agricultural community. Bob advocated both no-till farming and natural selection through seed cleaning. He was an active participant in agricultural groups, including the Ohio Farm Bureau and the Ohio Soybean Association. Additionally, Bob designed and improved many farm implements. Bob was an avid reader; Bob read for recreation and to better himself. Additionally, Bob also enjoyed automotive repair; he built custom engines, including a championship drag racer. Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret; his son Robert J. Beck, Jr. and his wife Amy Frank; his daughter, Brigit E. Nicol and her husband Derek; and his 3 grandchildren, who fondly called him "Pop": Maggie, Liz, and Jack Nicol. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Deacon David Bezusko will officiate and burial will follow at the church cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions in memory of Bob can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Capital Campaign in care of the funeral home.
