Than C. Artis Than C. Artis, age 76, of West Mansfield died Friday, December 9, 2011, at his home with his wife at his side following an extended illness. A lifetime farmer, he had worked as a milk hauler and been employed with DAB. He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1953 where he showed champion hogs at the fair through the FFA program. He loved collecting miniature farm toys and flashlights and will be remembered for his "See Pawpaw" game where he always had one dollar bills ready for the grandkids if they came to see Pawpaw. He was born December 27, 1934, in the same home where he lived today to the late Robley "Bob" and Bonita Clark Artis. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Virginia McCalla Artis, to whom he was married on December 5, 1963, in Portland , IN; his children, Dr. Macy (Russ) Fox, Bellevue, WA; Stanley T. Artis, West Mansfield; and Nancy (Scott) Turner, Lilburn, GA; 7 grandchildren, Trency, Victoria, and Zachary Turner, and Logan, Davis, Ben, & Abby Fox; and a host of in-laws, cousins, and friends. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Max Jackson and longtime friend, Ron Rostorfer, will officiate and burial will take place at Hathaway Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stan Artis, Scott Turner, Trency Turner, Larry Artis, Junior Tevis, Roger Jenkins, and Mark Allshouse. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church or Universal Home Health and Hospice. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
