Vesta Mae Murphy Vesta Mae Murphy, age 80, of Marysville died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, with her husband and family at her side following a seven-month illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be remembered as a wonderful person who was always concerned for the well-being of others. She retired from Ranco in Columbus in 1980 and was employed as a receptionist for several years in the office of Dr. William Lickliter. She was a former member of the Marysville Eagles Aerie #3506. Vesta loved flowers, ceramics, and playing cards and was a talented lefty in bowling, horseshoes, and cornhole. She will be missed beyond measure. She was born June 11, 1930, in Wellsville to the late James O. and Flonnie J. Randolph Spears. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael and Kenneth Mathews, a sister, Betty Louise Spears, and 4 brothers, Doyle, William, Richard, and Timmy Spears. Survivors include her devoted husband of 26 years, Gene A. Murphy, to whom she was married on November 17, 1984, in Marysville, by the Reverend Donald Moceri; her children, Cheryl (Benjamin) Reynolds and Robert (Mary) Mathews, each of Columbus; and Gerald (Katherine) Mathews, Dallas, TX; a step-daughter, Angela Flannery, Marysville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Annabelle Butler, Columbus; Blondena Fisher, Marengo; and Janet (Don) Brooks, New Albany; 4 brothers, Lee (Sue) Spears, Dale (Joy) Spears, and Nolan (Carol) Spears, each of Columbus; and Wayne (Bobbie) Spears, Centerburg; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Mannasmith Funeral Home where the funeral will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Donald Moceri will officiate and burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.
