William J. “Bill” “Joe” Kerns, 88, of Ridgeway, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He worked in construction with the Ridgeway Lumber Company for many years and formerly attended the Ridgeway United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wood whittling, creating many beautiful pieces, and gardening, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Born March 21, 1936 in Rushsylvania, he was the son of the late James and Martha (Corwin) Kerns. On June 2, 1968 in Ridgeway, he married his wife of over 51 years, Janet M. (Kavanagh) Kerns, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2019. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerald and John Kerns.
He is survived by his daughters, Loretta Kerns of Ridgeway and Ruth (John) Cole of Virginia; a granddaughter, Katherine Cole of Virginia; sisters, Mary Ann Burkholder of Defiance, Betty Hoover of Salmon, ID. and Laura Beth Reed of Defiance; his brothers, Marvin Kerns of Rushsylvania, Melvin Kerns of Salmon, ID. and Mark Kerns of Maine; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the Rushsylvania Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Meadows officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield.
